Khon Kaen is one of four major cities in the Isaan region of Thailand and is not your typical tourist city making exploring here even more rewarding. Visit the city’s temples, museums, national parks and markets by day and let lose after dark at some of the Khon Kaen’s great restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
This highly revered Chedi believed to contain Buddha’s relics is an important site for locals and is situated in Ban Kham village.
The most famous temple in Khon Kaen is located next to Kaen Nakhon Lake. This beautiful temple has 9 storeys to explore and all levels are open to the public.
The city pillar is a sacred shrine in a small park located in front of Sala Suk Chai. A stone inscription from an ancient site in Amphoe Chum Phae is placed here.
Nature lovers can spend time at the parks and grassy areas at the Ubol Ratana Dam located about 50km northwest of Khon Kaen city at Phu Kao-Phu Phan Kham National Park.

This waterfall is about 85km from Khon Kaen and has a unique stair like limestone face that is easy to climb. The water cascades over sandstone boulders to produce the steps.
There are many natural attractions to explore here including mountains, caves, waterfalls and wild flowers. The park is also well known for dinosaur fossils that were discovered here in 1976.

These beaches located at the lake over Ubol Ratana Dam are popular during the holidays with water activities such as banana boats and water bicycles. There is a restaurant nearby which sells fresh fish from the lake.
The zoo is a wildlife conservation research center of rare breeds and aims to build awareness of wildlife and plants. Visitors can see rare breeds such as deer, white lions, white tigers and white rhinoceros.
The villagers at the Ban Khok Sa-nga attract visitors with their snake shows and earn extra income from selling herbal medicine.
